BMW platforms

BMW engines and gearboxes we tune

BMW reuses its modular engines across many models, so the same calibration knowledge carries from a 3 Series to an X3. Common platforms in the GTA:

  • B48 2.0 turbo four: 330i, 430i, 530i, X1, X2, X3 xDrive30i, Z4 sDrive30i and MINI Cooper S/JCW cousins.
  • B58 3.0 turbo six: M340i, M440i, 540i, X3 M40i, X5 xDrive40i, Z4 M40i, M240i and the earlier 340i and 440i.
  • N55 and N20: 335i, 435i, M235i, M2 (F87) and 328i on the previous generation of turbo engines.
  • S55 and S58 M engines: M2 Competition, M3 and M4 (F80/F82 and G80/G82), and X3 M and X4 M.
  • V8 and the gearboxes: N63 and S63 twin-turbo V8 cars such as the M5, X5 M and 550i, plus the ZF 8HP automatic and M DCT gearboxes.

Not on the list? Send us the year, model and engine. If the software can be calibrated safely, we will tell you what is possible and what it costs before anything is booked.

What Stage 1, Stage 2 and TCU mean on a BMW

Stage 1: software only

Software only, for the car as it sits. On a BMW that means refined boost and timing targets, a cleaner throttle map in every drive mode and the factory torque limiters set to match. Knock control, temperature protection and the DME's safety strategies stay active.

Stage 2: built around your parts

For cars with supporting hardware such as an upgraded charge cooler, intake or downpipe. The map is built around those parts and logged for fuelling and intake temperatures, which matters on hot GTA summer days. Installs are by referral for now; we calibrate around them.

TCU: the gearbox to match

The ZF 8HP is one of the best automatics around, but its factory software is tuned for smoothness. A TCU calibration raises its torque limits to match the engine, firms up shifts in Sport and speeds up the response to the paddles. M DCT cars can get refined launch and shift behaviour where supported.

BMW tuning prices

  • BMW turbo models (B48, B58, N55 and similar): Stage 1: from $999
  • BMW M cars and V8 models: performance Stage 1: from $1,499
  • Stage 2 with supporting hardware: from $1,299
  • ZF 8HP or DCT calibration (TCU): from $999
  • Stage 1 + TCU bundle: from $1,799
  • Diagnostics and health scan (credited toward a tune within 30 days): from $99

Prices are in CAD and the final quote depends on your exact car, software and goal. Your original factory map is saved before anything is written, so you can always go back to stock.

Before you tune a BMW

Many newer BMWs ship with locked engine computers, and some need an unlock step that depends on the build date and software level. We check your VIN and software first and tell you before booking what is possible in your driveway. We also scan for the usual BMW suspects, such as charge pipe leaks, ignition coils and stored misfire faults, before anything is written.

How a mobile BMW tune works

  • Send your car (year, model, engine, current mods and goal) or call (416) 839-2266. We confirm support for your software and quote before booking.
  • We come to your home, work or driveway with professional-grade tuning and diagnostic equipment. No drop-off, no waiting room.
  • Health scan and live data first. If something needs fixing, you hear it before any calibration is written.
  • Factory map saved, calibration written, then a data log to confirm the result, with clear notes on what changed.
